WCAG-compliant website

Your website is also used by people who are blind or partially sighted, and by people who operate a computer with the keyboard alone. We design and fix websites so they meet WCAG at level AA, the standard that digital accessibility laws refer to.

Approach

How to get to a WCAG-compliant website

At the start we agree what level the website should meet, usually AA. Whether the regulations apply to your company depends on the kind of services it provides and its size, so that part is for you to assess with a lawyer. We take care of the design and the code.

  1. Accessibility starts with brand colours

Problems often begin in the identity. We check the palette's contrast before the website is designed, and the brandbook records what text can sit on each colour.

  2. Fixes in the design and the code

We fix heading order, form field labels, image descriptions and keyboard use in the website itself. An overlay in the corner of the screen that enlarges text won't do that for us.

  3. Tested the way a person uses it

We go through the website with the keyboard alone and with a screen reader. Automated tests are only a first step, because they catch just some of the errors.

A website everyone can use, including with a screen reader or the keyboard alone.

Scope of work

What we prepare

Accessibility audit What on your website doesn't meet WCAG today

What we do

We check contrast, text size, headings, forms, image and video descriptions, and use with a keyboard and a screen reader. For each problem, we note where it is on the site and how to fix it.

What digital accessibility is

What you get

  • Review of compliance with WCAG level AA
  • List of fixes for designers and developers
  • Fixes in order, starting with those that block the most people
Fixing an existing website Changes in the design and the code

What we do

We make the fixes from the audit: colours and contrast, heading order, field labels, image descriptions and a visible focus indicator for keyboard users. After the changes, we check the site again.

What you get

  • Updated design and code
  • Check after the fixes
  • Guidelines for people who add content
A new WCAG-compliant website Accessibility planned from the first design

What we do

On a new website, accessibility is part of the workshops, the colour palette and the blocks in the admin panel. The Urtica website had to meet WCAG 2.1 at level AA. The old blue with white text gave the button a contrast of 3.1:1; after lightening the blue and switching the text to navy, the button reaches 5.8:1.

What you get

  • A colour palette checked for contrast
  • Admin panel blocks with room for image descriptions and a fixed heading order
  • Check of the website before publication
